American women mayors endorse Kamala Harris for the US Presidency *
July 2024: Following the withdrawal of US President Joe Biden from the 2024 US presidential election on 5 November, women mayors from across the USA were quick to offer their support to Vice President Kamala Harris. In a statement, distributed by the Democratic Mayors Association, they said that the Vice President had proven to be an enthusiastic supporter of American towns and cities. “Under a Harris presidency, communities will continue to receive much-needed investments and working people will be supported in their endeavours to build a prosperous future for themselves and their families.”
Statement by Democratic women mayors
“As Mayors, we are the closest to the people and understand better than most that too much is at stake for our communities to endure another Donald Trump presidency. Our rights, freedoms, and very democracy are on the line. With some 100 days until the election, Democratic mayors remain fully committed to doing everything in our power to continue the momentum and legacy that President Joe Biden created.
We are fully confident that this progress will continue under the leadership of Vice President Kamala Harris. She has been the President's partner: delivering historic investments for our cities, championing working people, and fighting to protect our freedoms. We know she will continue to be a strong ally of mayors and cities. She is more than ready to lead our country. We look forward to working with her to ensure we defeat Donald Trump and his extreme agenda this November.
Democratic mayors enthusiastically endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as the nominee and are ready to support her vision of delivering opportunity for all Americans.”
Statement by Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego
”Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, who was on Joe Biden’s re-election advisory committee before he withdrew his candidacy added: “The future I want for our country is one where seniors can enjoy low costs on their medications, where combatting climate change is an urgent priority and where the American Dream is achievable for all families - not just the wealthy few. That’s why I wholeheartedly support Kamala Harris, who I know will continue to deliver results for all of us, and stand ready to do whatever it takes to elect her to the White House.”
Women Mayors has identified almost 90 American female mayors who signed up for the above endorsement of Kamala Harris. Among them are the mayors of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tampa, Boise, New Orleans, Boston, Raleigh, Nashville, Washington DC, Spokane and Madison as well as dozens of mayors from smaller communities between California and New York Island.
